New zoning rules are coming to make Lexington more urban and more pedestrian- and bike- friendly. Intense public conversations over the past few years have made it clear that Lexingtonians want a city that is less car-centered, has better public transportation and also preserve the farmland that surrounds us. To achieve these goals Lexington must become more densely populated; hence the need for updated zoning regulations.
Our speakers will discuss how the new ZOTA (Zoning Ordinance Text Amendment) will affect the way property owners can build on their properties. It also brings changes to neighborhood business zones, like the Idle Hour Shopping Center, and regulates what kinds of businesses can operate there. The ZOTA is currently under review by the City Council which is likely to vote on it early this summer.
An official from Planning Services may also come to our meeting answering questions about the development plan at Richmond Road and St. Margaret Drive.
All Idle Hour residents are welcome at our meetings.

takes place on Saturday afternoon, July 13, 2024 at the picnic shelter in Idle Hour Park. All Idle Hour residents are invited.
