IHNA GENERAL MEETING
Monday, Nov. 3, 6:30 -8 pm
at the Senior Center in Idle Hour Park
Please note that this meeting takes place on the first Monday of November rather than the second Monday of the month, as usual
Our speaker will be Kit Anderson from CivicLex. She will introduce us to the LFUCG Charter, the document that lays out how our local government works. And she will ask for our thoughts about potential changes to the Charter. Since cities always change, it is wise to periodically review this document in order to determine whether it still meets the city’s needs and goals.
At our neighborhood meeting, CivicLex will gather community input about the topics the upcoming review should focus on. We can weigh in on possible topics or suggest new ones. Current topic ideas include:
The number of Council Members and Districts in Lexington
The Redistricting Process
Council term lengths
Council compensation
How public engagement is represented in the charter
How frequently the charter is reviewed
Even if these topics don't sound like they have a lot to do with the mission of our neighborhood, they are about how we can make Lexington's local government more representative and possibly more functional. This has an impact on all policy in Lexington, including neighborhoods, housing, parks, economic development, and so much more.
Please come and share your thoughts.
__________
As usual, we have invited Council Member Liz Sheehan to provide an update about the Council’s work and to answer questions from neighbors.
__________
Our November meeting is also when we hold board elections. We elect or reelect, half of our board and two officers. This year the president and the treasurer of our board are stepping down and new officers will be elected to fill these positions.
